We share these lessons as two people who are still learning to love, forgive and grow together. Small, faithful choices can strengthen a marriage through every season.
Build Your Marriage on God’s Word
Let Scripture and prayer guide your decisions. Address difficulties with honesty, humility and love, and be quick to reconcile. A struggling relationship needs intentional care rather than silence or neglect.
Keep Christ at the centre and choose to renew your commitment.
Manage Finances as One Team
Make major financial decisions together, share access to finances and agree on responsibilities. Our practice is to consult each other before spending more than S$250. Accountability helps money become a source of unity.
Master your money—don’t let money master your marriage.
Practise Radical Honesty
Our guiding belief is simple: “The secret is to have no secrets.” Speak truth with love and sensitivity. Say “I’m sorry, please forgive me,” express appreciation and remind your spouse that you would choose them again.
Openness builds trust; kindness helps truth be heard.
Never Criticise in Public
Protect your spouse’s dignity, especially in front of others. Discuss disagreements privately, listen before reacting and try to understand the hurt beneath your spouse’s words as well as your own.
Face the issue together while honouring one another.
Understand Biblical Roles in Marriage
Ephesians 5:22–33 calls husbands to sacrificial love and wives to respect and support. We understand these responsibilities through mutual honour, service and care, with each spouse seeking the other’s good.
Submission works when love leads.
Discover Your Spouse’s Love Language
Gary Chapman describes five love languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time and physical touch. Lawrence values physical touch; Moyra values acts of service. Learning how the other receives love has deepened our relationship.
Express love in ways your spouse understands and appreciates.
Protect Your Marriage Intentionally
Guard the relationship through wise boundaries, accountability and prayer support. For us, travelling together whenever possible is one practical way to protect our bond. Continue making choices that nurture trust and closeness.
Don’t just love your marriage—protect it.
A Covenant Worth Caring For
A Christ-centred marriage still faces challenges. God’s Word gives us direction as we work through them with love, humility and perseverance.
Marriage is a covenant designed by God. Keep choosing to listen, reconcile, serve and grow together.
